Falmouth Scientific, Inc. NXIC

Measurement

The Falmouth Scientific NXIC measures conductivity (S/m), temperature (ÂșC), depth (dBar), and internally calculates values for salinity (psu) and sound velocity (m/s).

Description

Falmouth Scientific, Inc., have provided VENUS with the first Ethernet-ready version of their NXIC CTD. The NXIC uses a rugged thermistor for sensing temperature, and a non-external field inductive sensor for measuring conductivity, which is not affected by proximity to metal structures. The NXIC does not need to be calibrated annually, and the inductive sensor can be cleaned in the field without affecting factory calibration. Salinity is primarily determined from the conductivity measurement (salinity estimates also require a correction for temperature and pressure effects).

The NXIC is on loan to VENUS.
