Cable Hotline

Cable Info Hotline Now Available

Ocean Networks Canada (ONC) operates seafloor telecommunication cables and scientific equipment in Alberni Inlet and Barkley Sound. These allow ONC to collect freely available oceanographic data in real time from these locations and offshore from Vancouver Island. Additionally, Google has installed two seafloor telecommunication cables, the Topaz and Topaz Stub, which pass through Alberni Inlet into Barkley Sound.

A hotline and information email are now available for addressing questions and concerns about these cables and instruments:

Phone: (236) 464-0013

Email: cableinfo@oceannetworks.ca

Map: Region extending from Barkley Sound to Barkley Canyon, including latitude and longitudes, and bathymetry contours. Google and ONC cables and other infrastructure are shown.
