Telesonar – Underwater acoustic Modem
Description
Teledyne Benthos underwater acoustic modems are used in applications to transmit data wirelessly through the water. “Telesonar” is derived from the words telemetry and sonar, where telemetry is data transmission, and the word sonar (a general term for the applications of underwater sound), was derived many years ago from the acronym for sound navigation and ranging.
Modem is used to transmit sensor data from our particular frame, and send the wireless signal carrying particular data to our shore station. Also, the Acoustic Modem may be used to release instruments up to surface based on the length of stay in water. Batteries may deteriorate after time; so the modem will send a signal to release the instrument to surface for maintenance.
