The C-MAP Cyclops camera system provides the user with high-resolution underwater images (8 megapixel) and a lower resolution real-time video stream. Image files have an associated meta-data file attached (meta-data includes camera settings, pan and tilt position, light status, etc.)Description
C-Map Systems have provided VENUS with a high resolution, multi-functional camera system that will serve scientists who are interested in observing the seabed in Saanich Inlet. Some system features include:
- Olympus C8080 wide zoom camera (8 Mpixels, f2.4, 5× optical zoom)
- Sidus SS109 pan & tilt unit (+/- 90º tilt, +/- 180º pan)
- Ikelite 200 Ws flash
- Deep Sea Power and Light Rite-Lite 100 W incandescent lights (3)
- Scaling lasers (red, 10 mW)
The system also has a video server that converts composite video output from the camera to MPEG2 format, so that users have a preview of the picture. With this added feature, the stills camera system can also be used to view and capture underwater video. The camera system is mounted on a small, portable tripod structure that an ROV is capable of relocating without the need to disconnect the camera from the VENUS system.
