Assessing the impact of sea water

VENUS Installations Engineer – Chris Sundstrom – is checking the Materials Testbed (MTB) after several months deployment in the Strait of Georgia. The Materials Testbed is an experiment deployed at the VENUS Delta Dynamics Laboratory for the purpose of characterizing the corrosion rates of various material and fastener combinations when buried or partially buried in the sediments found there. Previous deployments of instrumentation have found unusually high corrosion rates in this locality and this experiment is intended to determine the best materials combination for future instrumentation designs.
