The Saanich Node Pod returns from five years on the seafloor at 100m

After more than 5 years of operation, the VENUS Saanich Inlet Node has been recovered for major upgrades. This particular Node was the first generation of sub-sea equipment deployed on VENUS and has helped produce the longest time series data on VENUS – five years from Saanich Inlet. The Node design proved the concept for the delivery of power and communication to scores of seafloor sensors. VENUS’s partnership with OceanWorks International Inc., a subsea technology company from Vancouver and supplier of all the VENUS Nodes, has provided a solid foundation for the ongoing success of VENUS as an advanced ocean observing system.
