Axis Camera keeps an eye on the sampling volume of an acoustic velocity sensor

Co-op student Kira Homala (University of Washington) takes a break from preparing the Axis PTZ camera for deployment at the Strait of Georgia Central node during the July 2011 maintenance cruise. The Axis camera, visible here inside its glass pressure case, was deployed in such a way that its field of view includes the sampling volume of an acoustic current velocity sensor. Automated software will be able to track the motion of particles in the camera images, providing an alternative measure of current velocities for comparison with the acoustically-measured values.
