Last week, October 7, 2010, VENUS took delivery of two CODAR arrays for future deployment in the Strait of Georgia. The CODAR system uses high frequency radio waves to map out surface currents. We are now in the process of applying for radio waver permits and building the shore installations. When deployed later in 2011, the VENUS arrays will provide maps of surface currents around Sandheads, representing the first deployment of permanent HF antennae in western Canada. HF radar maps are already available for most of the west coast of the US, as hosted by the Coastal Observing Research and Development Center.
