On April 30th, the Ocean Technology Lab (OTL) successfully deployed an HD Camera in Saanich Inlet. The OTL operates the Ocean Technology Test Bed (OTTB), an underwater laboratory for the development and testing of underwater instrumentation; the OTTB is connected to shore through the VENUS Node. The camera is now streaming high quality video from a depth of 80 m, and several scientists are lining up to use this unique observation tool. The Data Management Group (DMAS) are presently refining their user interface to this camera, and will then hand it over to researchers at UVIC and abroad. It was a big milestone for us to get an instrument down on the OTTB, said Alison Proctor (OTTB/UVic). Preliminary plans include broadcasting live feed at one of the public attractions in Vancouver. Stay tuned for further news.
